Malika Abbas is a visual artist and curator from Karachi, Pakistan. She trained and graduated in miniature
painting and a minor in photography and uses various artistic mediums in her work.
Her photography and miniature practice, sometimes even combined in pieces, is inspired by her personal life,
the traumatic experience of loss, and the relationship between a mother and her children, family and
community. It investigates the societal constructs and expectations towards family and self which are at odds
with the lived experiences of everyday life. She is interested in the way our familial relationships, particularly
the mother/ female role looks and changes over time.
Malika was a photojournalist and archivist for the While Star pvt ltd agency, a subsidiary of the DAWN Media
Group. She is currently working as a curator at AAN Art Space and Museum and is a faculty at Indus Valley
