Mohsin Shafi is a multifaceted South Asian artist based in Pakistan, whose practice is shaped by the tensions and tenderness of his lived experience — born, raised, and constantly negotiating belonging within the landscape that formed him. His work unfolds through encounters with memory, history, and archives, tracing the echoes of absence and the fragile outlines of what remains unseen. Shafi holds a Master’s degree in Visual Arts and a Bachelor’s degree in Visual Communication, both from the National College of Arts, Lahore, where he later served as adjunct faculty for over seven years in both departments. He has also taught at the Beaconhouse National University and the Pakistan Institute of Fashion and Design. Over the past decade, his work has been exhibited at leading galleries across Pakistan and internationally, including art fairs, museum shows, and alternative spaces. His residencies include AIR Niederösterreich in Krems, Austria (2024); 1646 Experimental Art Space in The Hague, Netherlands (2021); Pro Helvetia’s Atelier Mondial in Basel, Switzerland (2019); and The Growlery in San Francisco, United States (2019). Earlier, he was an artist-in-residence at Rondo Studios in Graz, Austria (2012), and part of Pakistan’s own Vasl Artists’ Residency in Karachi (2010).
