Dr Sadia Kamran Pasha

Dr. Sadia Pasha Kamran is a thinker, theorist, and artist. She has been teaching art history & theory since she graduated from the National College of Arts, Lahore in 1995. Her research on contemporary art in Pakistan is well received at national and international forums including College Art Association (2016 DC & 2019 NY), Association of Asian Studies Chicago (2015), New England Association for South Asian Studies (2014), Eurasia International (2018), Japanese Association of South Asian Studies (2017), National Women Studies Association (2017), Art Management Germany (2019), Oxford University UK (2020), SECAC Virginia (2020), Sharjah Art Foundation (2021), AMPS University of South Africa (2022) and IAFOR Virginia Tech, DC (ERI2023). She is also the recipient of the Getty Research Award 2015. Her publication in the International Journal of Art History Pedagogy and Practice 2016 speaks about her experience of teaching the subject at various institutions in Lahore along with her appreciation of the indigenous ways of knowledge production and transmission. In her studio and curatorial practice, she aims to rethink the issues of tradition and modernity concerning the efforts of decolonization in the Global South. Her latest publication Bano’s Companion to Feminist Art - Women, Art & Politics in Pakistan highlights the role and status of women artists in the development of contemporary Pakistani society. The book meets the paradigm of socially engaged art history writing deeply entrenched in theoretical investigations.
