Anila Zulfiqar is a distinguished contemporary artist, educator, and writer based in Lahore, Pakistan. Born in 1975 and raised amid the rich visual heritage of the historic Walled City, her early surroundings deeply influenced her artistic journey, grounding her work in themes of memory and urban culture. She holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Fine Arts with first-class honors and a gold medal from the University of the Punjab, where she later completed her M.Phil. and Ph.D. in Studio-Based Painting Practice. Anila is widely known for her dreamlike cityscapes and conceptual landscapes that blend impressionistic brushwork with layered drips, dabs, and textured color fields, transforming familiar architecture into symbolic narratives of identity and cultural memory. A recurring focus of her art is the vanishing architecture of old Lahore, which she reimagines as metaphors for collective history and feminine perspectives within society. Since 1994, she has actively exhibited her work in numerous group and solo exhibitions, including notable shows like “Symbolic Representation of Self with Space,” “The Unconscious Revealed,” and “Nostalgic Expressions” at renowned galleries such as Hamail and Taseer Art Gallery in Lahore. Alongside her studio practice, Anila Zulfiqar is a respected lecturer at the University of the Punjab and contributes art criticism and essays to various academic and cultural publications. Through her evocative paintings and scholarly work, she continues to explore the intricate layers of memory, place, and identity in Pakistan’s evolving urban landscape
