Tooba Ashraf is a Lahore-based fine artist and aspiring social scientist. Ashraf received a distinction in Fine Arts from the National College of Arts in 2018. She recently complete her M.Phil dissertation in Cultural Studies. She majored in painting at NCA and minored in Conceptual Photography, Site-Specific Sculpture, Performance Art, and Basic Clay Making. Her work explores the concept of "False Nostalgia," or how one's reality is shaped by the interaction of the conscious and subconscious realms. Her artistic approach emphasises the significance of early childhood memories in the construction of one's identity. She is now investigating the role of memory in shaping collective identity in historical, cultural, and political contexts. Tooba won first prize for her painting in the Zero Hunger Art Competition, "We the Peoples, We the Arts" organised by the United Nations and the Swiss Development Corporation (Islamabad) in 2016. In 2018, the jury awarded her the highest commendation for excellence in the Second Edition of "We the Peoples, We the Arts". In addition, she took part in the Tasweer Ghar Art Residency in Lahore. Tooba's work has been shown in a number of exhibitions throughout Pakistan since 2016. She works and lives in Lahore.
